Kazakhstan: KNB Prevented 4 Terrorist Attacks

Yermek Sagimbayev, the National Security Committee Head, prepared a report for Qasym-Jomart Toqayev on the main results of the department’s work, Orda.kz reports, citing the presidential press service.
According to Yermek Sagimbayev, 1.6 trillion tenge were returned to the country's budget by preventing corruption offenses, and another 315 billion tenge, previously stolen, were returned to the treasury.
46 people were convicted for corruption and related offenses,The KNB Chair said.
Yermek Sagimbayev also noted that since the beginning of the year, illegal attempts to import and export foreign currency amounted to 18 billion tenge, and contraband goods – 66 billion tenge.
Meanwhile, The National Security Committee has neutralized 20 schemes for illegal border crossing. Six Kazakhstanis suspected of terrorist activity have been returned from Syria and Türkiye.
The KNB also prevented four terrorist attacks, and 824 foreign citizens associated with terrorism were prevented from entering Kazakhstan.
Together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 19 organized crime groups were disbanded, and 60 people were arrested.
84 people have been convicted for involvement in terrorism and extremism, and 44 individuals have been detained, The KNB Chair told the President .
Between January and December 2024, 505 firearms, five improvised explosive devices, 45 explosive packages, and more than 15,000 rounds of ammunition were seized from illegal circulation.
About 55 thousand offenders were detained at the state border, more than 1.3 thousand attempts to smuggle weapons, ammunition, drugs and other prohibited items were prevented, noted Yermek Sagimbaev.
Yermek Sagimbayev reported that 33 drug labs have been eliminated since the beginning of the year.
35 international and 31 regional channels for transporting narcotic substances were eliminated.
3.2 tons of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, 4.5 tons of poppy straw raw materials, and 18.8 tons of precursors were seized from illegal circulation. 162 people were convicted for illegal circulation of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, the Chair reported.
The special services prevented 552 million cyber attacks and 6,000 DDoS attacks on state bodies' information systems.
