Kazakhstan’s National Security Committee (KNB), in cooperation with foreign partners, has detained a Kazakhstan citizen suspected of hacking into foreign company servers, Orda.kz reports.
According to the KNB, the operation was carried out in Almaty with support from international security agencies.
Investigators believe the suspect gained unauthorized access to corporate servers abroad and installed malware designed to encrypt data. He then demanded ransom payments in cryptocurrency in exchange for restoring access.
During a search, authorities seized equipment allegedly used in the cyberattacks.
