Kazakhstan’s admission to the IAEA Far East Group was announced at a meeting of the agency’s Board of Governors. This status gives the country access to work in the governing bodies and strengthens its role in global nuclear security, Orda.kz reports.
Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed gratitude for the decision, noting that it continues the course toward restoring the sovereign equality of states within the agency in accordance with the statute and IAEA General Conference resolution GC(67)/RES/15, initiated by Kazakhstan in September 2023.
The Ministry emphasized that the new status will allow Kazakhstan to play a more active role in shaping global policy in the field of nuclear security and technology.
“Joining the group also reaffirms Astana’s commitment to maintaining peace, global security, and strengthening the nuclear disarmament and nonproliferation regime.”
Earlier, we reported that the IAEA will support Kazakhstan at all stages of building a nuclear power plant: from site selection to the launch of the facility.
