In 2024, the Ministry of Justice of Kazakhstan is engaged in 21 cases, Orda reports.
13 of them are being considered in international arbitrations, six in foreign courts; 2 are at the pre-trial stage.
In 2023, the ministry handled 26 cases.
Vice Minister of Justice Daniil Vaisov reported on this at a Central Communications Service Briefing.
Among the completed cases is a long-standing dispute regarding Italian companies between the Kazakh Embassy in Italy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The conflict was resolved by signing a tripartite settlement agreement.
The lawsuit of the Almaty Akimat and BTA Bank JSC against Felix Sater has also been completed.
The jury of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York ruled in favor of Kazakhstan.
Compensation — more than $32 million — was awarded.
The amount exceeded the stated claims. The verdict is now expected to be confirmed.
In another case involving the Committee for Roads and F&A Road Construction, an agreement was signed to return an advance payment of 5.9 billion tenge. The company is also required to reimburse legal costs.
Kazakhstan also recently settled its dispute with Moldovan businessmen Anatolie and Gabriel Stati.
