In the Jylyoi district of the Atyrau region, large-scale efforts are underway to build protective infrastructure to guard against potential flooding, Orda.kz reports.
According to the district Akimat, the main dam will stretch 100 kilometers in total — 49 km along the Jem River and the remainder along the Kursay River. So far, more than 10 billion tenge has been spent by the contractor, though it's unclear whether that amount is considered high or within expectations.
In addition to building the main dam, we're also dredging canal beds and constructing three locks. So far, 100 km of canals have been dug and a protective structure of the same length has been completed, the Akimat reported
Beyond the primary barrier, extra safety measures are being implemented. A second dam line, 65 km long, has been built along the highway. A third line, currently under construction, will cover 18 km — 60% of which is already finished.
To monitor the situation closely, workers are stationed in two shifts around the clock. Nearly 200 pieces of equipment have been deployed for the construction.
Locals say the water level in the Jem River has remained stable in recent days. Authorities continue to monitor conditions and ensure that the work progresses according to plan.
