Kazakhstan Faces Shortage of Doctors and IT Specialists

Kazakhstan is struggling to fill vacancies for doctors and IT specialists, Orda.kz reports.
According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, only 100 people have submitted resumes for obstetrician-gynecologist vacancies, while 469 positions remain open. There are 448 pediatrician vacancies, but only 139 specialists have applied. The country also needs 300 intensive care doctors, while only 75 resumes have been submitted.
Kazakhstan also lacks oncologists, neonatologists, and endocrinologists.
The IT sector is facing a similar shortage. The labor portal lists 509 vacancies for programmers and 355 for graphic designers.
To address the staffing shortage, Kazakhstan has simplified employment procedures for foreign nationals in more than 50 in-demand professions, including medicine, IT, engineering, and the creative industries. Specialists in these fields can obtain a permanent residence permit in Kazakhstan.
So far, few foreign workers have been hired in these areas. According to the Unified System for Recording Employment Contracts, only 55 contracts have been signed with foreign specialists. Automation engineers are hired most often.
