Energy Minister Almassadam Satkaliyev announced that the country is determining a third site for nuclear power plant construction. He made this statement at a briefing, reports Orda.kz.
A special commission has been created and preliminary work has been conducted. We are taking into account the power grid topology, load centers, and placement safety, said the Minister.
He noted that modern technologies allow nuclear power plants to be built without large water bodies thanks to dry cooling systems.
The state commission previously identified two sites: Balkhash (up to six power units) and Kurchatov.
They are also considering Aqtau, East and West Kazakhstan, including the Caspian Sea coast.
Responding to a question about coordinating construction on the Caspian with neighboring countries, Satkaliyev clarified that Kazakhstan will obtain all necessary permits, including from the IAEA, regardless of the construction site.
