The government is developing a plan to prevent fuel shortages and their illicit export abroad, Orda.kz reports.

On August 21, a meeting was held in the Cabinet of Ministers under the leadership of First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar, where the situation with gasoline and diesel fuel was discussed.

The Ministry of Energy assures that reserves are sufficient for domestic needs.

In order to prevent shortages and illegal export of fuel abroad, Sklyar instructed the responsible government agencies to strengthen oversight at the border, develop a detailed plan to prevent the ‘flow’ of fuel, and monitor the movement of petroleum products and consumption in the regions,
 the government press service reported.

The government promises to keep the situation under special control.

Earlier, we reported that despite record production of gasoline and diesel in the first half of 2025, fuel prices in Kazakhstan continue to rise. The transition to free pricing, which began this year, was one of the reasons for the increase.

If the tenge weakens in the fall, Kazakhstan could face a fuel shortage. Oil analysts point to the growing “black flow” of gasoline across the border and low domestic prices, which make smuggling especially profitable.
