The Ministry of Defense proposed discussing the possibility of deploying air defense units on the territory of Kazakhstan, Orda.kz reports.

The corresponding order of the Minister of Defense was published on the Open NPA website.

The document sets out rules and requirements for deploying air defense units, including anti-aircraft missile and radio-technical installations.

The draft order also covers preparing and organizing combat positions, including access road construction and camouflage of deployed objects.

Under the document, air defense units must be located no closer than 3 km from cities and large towns and more than 5 km from airfields.

The main positions are selected at a distance of 5-10 km from the state border, large administrative and industrial facilities, airfields, arsenals and other strategic facilities. Requirements for the positions of radio-technical equipment are also taken into account,  the document says.

Additionally, the order specifies that air defense units must be ready to carry out combat missions, protecting from possible enemy fire.

It references installations such as the S-75, Buk-M2E, Tor-M2K, and S-300 air defense systems and radar stations, including the P-18M radar.

The draft order is open for public discussion on the Open NPA portal until February 3, 2025.

It is worth noting that in 2021, Kazakhstan acquired the BUK-M2E multifunctional anti-aircraft missile system. It is equipped with missiles with an aircraft destruction efficiency of up to 99%.
