Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar commented on the financial challenges affecting the construction of thermal power plants in Kazakhstan, Orda.kz reports.
Sklyar noted that design work for the plants in Kokshetau, Semey, and Oskemen is ongoing:
Yes, there are problems with subsidizing the interest rate on equipment, so we are now continuing negotiations when this issue is resolved. But we are not stopping the design work, early preparatory work, in particular, in Kokshetau,
he told reporters at Aqorda, where the President was holding talks with the Italian Prime Minister.
He also acknowledged the possibility of replacing the current investor, depending on how the situation develops.
"If they don't allocate funds, of course, the investor will change. There are no potential ones yet."
A memorandum on the construction of the thermal power plant was signed in 2023. At the time, Sklyar stated that Kazakhstan had turned to Russia for support due to the outdated state of its thermal power infrastructure.
