Kazakhstan Collected 35 Billion Tenge From Legal Crypto Miners

Kazakhstan introduced a strategic digital-mining scheme on August 1 under which participating companies will transfer 10% of the cryptocurrency they mine to a national reserve, Orda.kz reports, citing Energyprom.kz.
From 2023 through May 2026, licensed miners produced about 7,200 BTC in Kazakhstan and paid approximately 35 billion tenge in taxes. Most of this revenue came from VAT on imported mining equipment.
Production peaked in 2024 at about 3,400 BTC. It fell to 2,300 BTC in 2025 and reached only 519.5 BTC in the first five months of 2026.
78 companies and 35 data centers:
Kazakhstan currently has 78 registered digital-mining companies, the highest number since late 2023. Of these, 35 operate their own data centers. Sixteen are located in Astana, 10 in Almaty and the rest in other regions. Another 43 companies place their equipment in data centers operated by other organizations, Energyprom reported.
The State’s 10% Share
Under the strategic digital-mining scheme introduced on August 1, existing miners may apply for a new status allowing them to purchase electricity directly from power producers at regulated ceiling rates.
In return, participating companies must transfer 10% of the cryptocurrency they mine to the state after electricity costs are deducted. The assets will be used to establish a national crypto reserve.
