The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a local currency loan to Kazakhstan under a government guarantee of up to $291.49 million, Orda.kz reports, citing the Chinese news agency Xinhua.
The funds are intended to upgrade 208 kilometers of the two-lane highway connecting Qyzylorda and Jezkazgan to a higher-standard, climate-resilient road.
The upgraded road is expected to provide all-season access and reduce travel time on this route from four to two hours.
The project includes reflective strips, pedestrian crossings, and interchanges. These measures are expected to significantly reduce the number of accidents and improve the overall safety of the road corridor.
In addition, it will improve communication between regions and promote the development of national and international trade.
