Kazakhstan: Appeal Denied in Single Time Zone Lawsuit

On February 26, an Astana City Court dismissed the appeal of Serikzhan Akhmetzhanov, a lawyer from East Kazakhstan, Orda reports.
Akhmetzhanov had filed a lawsuit against the government of Kazakhstan, arguing that the unified time zone policy violates the Constitution and discriminates against approximately 725,000 Kazakhstani citizens.
The decision of the Astana Interdistrict Civil Court of December 18, 2024 on this case shall be left unchanged, the court ruled in its latest decision.
The initial claim had previously been dismissed by the Astana Interdistrict Civil Court, prompting Akhmetzhanov to appeal.
He believes his original case received only "formal and superficial" consideration.
The court completely ignored my arguments with references to specific regulatory legal acts, Akhmetzhanov stated.
