Kazakhstan and U.S. Discuss Economic Cooperation

The United States continues to express interest in deepening resource access and strategic partnership with Kazakhstan, Orda.kz reports.
Kazakh Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington as part of ongoing political and economic engagement between the two countries.
According to Rubio’s post on the social platform X, the sides discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation, including investment opportunities in the information technology sector and the extraction of critical minerals.

The talks also focused on ensuring a level playing field for American companies operating in Kazakhstan.
The meeting also addressed the C5+1 platform, which serves as a regional dialogue mechanism between the United States and Central Asian countries. Both sides highlighted joint priorities, including international and regional security. Particular attention was given to cooperation in combating illegal migration, with both officials agreeing to continue joint efforts in this area.
Nurtleu emphasized Kazakhstan’s role as a middle power and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to contributing constructively to global stability.
Earlier in March, the two held a phone conversation following Rubio’s visit to Riyadh, during which they discussed approaches to resolving the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
At the time, analysts noted that Washington’s growing interest in Kazakhstan extended beyond diplomacy, reflecting a broader aim to boost economic ties, particularly in mineral development and support for U.S. companies in the region.
