Kazakhstan and Russia Sign Memorandum on Gas Pipeline

At the 14th St. Petersburg International Gas Forum, Kazakhstan and Russia signed a memorandum on the construction of a new main gas pipeline, Orda.kz reports.
According to the Russian Embassy in Kazakhstan, Astana was represented by First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar, while Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller signed on behalf of Russia.
During their meeting, Sklyar and Miller discussed prospects for expanding cooperation in the gas sector, including the construction of a new pipeline to deliver Russian natural gas to Kazakhstan. Officials emphasized that with domestic demand continuing to rise, the agreement is vital for ensuring Kazakhstan’s energy stability.
In addition to the new pipeline project, the two sides agreed to process Kazakh gas from the Karachaganak field in Russia.
An agreement was signed on the main terms of long-term processing of Kazakh gas in Russia. The document formalizes cooperation on processing gas from the Karachaganak field at the Orenburg Gas Processing Plant, which will be modernized,
the embassy said in a statement.
