Kazakhstan and Russia have reached an agreement to divide the use of the +7 international dialing code between them, Orda.kz reports.
The Ministry of Digital Development has published a draft resolution detailing how phone number combinations under the +7 code will be allocated between the two countries.
The document was posted on the official portal for regulatory legal acts.
Under the proposed arrangement, Kazakhstan and Russia will each be assigned specific number ranges following the +7 prefix. The agreement was signed in November last year during a meeting between Presidents Qasym-Jomart Toqayev and Vladimir Putin.
According to the agreement:
- Kazakhstan will use +7 0, +7 6, and +7 7
- Russia will retain +7 2, +7 3, +7 4, +7 5, and +7 9
Kazakhstan had previously considered switching to its own unique country code +997, but ultimately chose to continue sharing the +7 code with Russia under this new framework.
