The Constitutional Legislation Committee approved a bill on ratification of the agreement between Kazakhstan and Qatar on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, Orda.kz reports.
The agreement establishes cooperation in investigations, prosecutions, and trials, allowing law enforcement agencies of the countries to exchange evidence and information.
The agreement provides for the temporary transfer of arrested persons, assistance in property confiscation, defined terms for refusing assistance, and protocols for maintaining data confidentiality.
Under this framework, law enforcement can arrange preliminary arrest of wanted individuals who will be extradited following official requests. This mechanism aims to enhance investigation effectiveness and combat cross-border crime.
While the countries have agreed to extradite criminals, there is no talk of extradition of their own citizens.
