Kazakhstan and the European Union have signed a €3 million contract as part of the Global Gateway strategy, strengthening their economic ties. The agreement was reached during the visit of European Commissioner for International Partnerships Jozef Síkela to Astana, Orda.kz reports.
European Commissioner Jozef Síkela met with Kazakhstan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Murat Nurtleu, to finalize the deal. The funds will support a partnership focused on extracting and supplying critical raw materials essential for European industry.
The initiative aims to secure stable and sustainable supply chains between Kazakhstan and the EU.
The EU and Kazakhstan are natural partners. Europe needs reliable access to critical raw materials, which are essential for modernizing our economy, and we are committed to advancing mutually beneficial cooperation with Kazakhstan on their extraction and development. This partnership will support all Central Asian countries, including Kazakhstan’s economic growth, strengthen its industrial capacity, create new opportunities for Kazakh businesses, drive innovation, and generate high-quality jobs, said the Commissioner.
The parties also agreed on a €200 million loan framework, which will fund the development of the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor, water resource management, and environmental protection projects.
This financing agreement will boost connectivity, enhance renewable energy infrastructure, and further integrate Kazakhstan into the Trans-Caspian Corridor, a key component of the Global Gateway strategy,
he emphasized.
