Minister of Internal Affairs Yerzhan Sadenov presented in the Majilis a draft ratification of the agreement with Armenia on travel and the stay of citizens, Orda.kz reports.
One of the main changes concerns migration rules.
The document introduces the obligation for citizens of the states-parties to register with the Internal Affairs Directorate after 30 days of stay in the country. Currently, they can stay without a police stamp for up to 90 days, Sadenov said.
He explained that reducing the period threefold is aimed at improving migration control. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, almost 12,000 Armenian citizens have entered Kazakhstan since the beginning of 2025.
At the same time, the agreement allows for an extension beyond 90 days in line with national legislation, if a temporary residence permit is obtained.
Entering Armenia, however, will become easier.
“The mutual visa regime is being abolished, which will reduce the costs of citizens visiting each other’s countries.”
Kazakhstanis will also be able to travel with a standard ID card instead of a passport.
Kazakhstanis with our ID card freely enter Russia and Kyrgyzstan. This measure simplifies the procedure for entry and stay, and also reduces the costs of issuing passports, the minister noted.
