Kazatomprom shareholders are expected to approve two major uranium sales to foreign companies at an extraordinary meeting. The parties have already agreed on the contract terms, leaving shareholders to vote on the deals. Changes to the board of directors are also on the agenda, Orda.kz reports, citing a company notice.
Under the first deal, Kazatomprom plans to sell uranium to China’s State Nuclear Uranium Resource Development Company Limited (SNURDC). The contract provides for the delivery of U3O8 uranium concentrate to the Alashankou railway station in China.
The second deal would be concluded with Uranium One Group, part of Russia’s Rosatom. The uranium would be delivered to the Siberian Chemical Plant in Russia.
Kazatomprom said the parties had agreed on the contract terms but would not disclose the volumes, prices or delivery schedules because the information is commercially confidential.
The company said the terms correspond to current market conditions and prevailing uranium-market trends.
Both transactions are classified as major deals and therefore require shareholder approval. Voting will take place by absentee ballot. Ballots will be accepted until October 6, with the results to be announced on October 7.
Shareholders will also consider changes to Kazatomprom’s board of directors. Yelzhas Otynshiyev, who represents Samruk-Kazyna, was appointed head of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, prompting a proposal to end his Kazatomprom board tenure early.
Samruk-Kazyna has nominated its co-managing director for strategy and asset management, Zhandos Kairgeldi, to replace him. If approved, Kairgeldi will serve for the remainder of the current board’s term.
Kazatomprom is the world’s largest uranium producer. Its attributable production accounted for approximately 20% of global primary uranium output in 2025. The company develops 27 deposits in Kazakhstan, while its main export markets are in Asia, Europe and the Americas.
