Kazakh Space Pioneer Talgat Musabayev Passes Away at 73; President Toqayev Pays Tribute
President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev has sent a message of condolence to the family and loved ones of cosmonaut and national hero Talgat Musabayev, Orda.kz reports, citing the Aqorda press service.
Toqayev praised Musabayev’s contributions to the development of Kazakhstan’s space program:
Talgat Amangeldiyevich, a hero who flew to space three times and conducted spacewalks, brought great honor to our country. As a senator and public figure, he initiated many worthy causes. His bright image, respected by society for professionalism and civic engagement, will remain in our hearts.
Musabayev was a Kazakh cosmonaut, Hero of Russia, and People’s Hero of Kazakhstan. He held the rank of major general in Russia and lieutenant general in Kazakhstan, and had a doctorate in technical sciences. He was born on January 7, 1951, in Almaty Region.
From 2007 to 2016, he headed Kazakhstan’s National Space Agency. Between 2017 and 2023, he served as a member of the Kazakh Senate.
