The Kazakh TV series Offside has been blocked on its YouTube channel, Orda.kz reports.
Producer and actor Rustem Omarov said this occurred following criticism from Majilis deputy Kudaibergen Beksultanov.
A day earlier, Kudaibergen had denounced the excessive use of profanity in local television series.
Omarov’s official page was also taken down.
Our esteemed deputy said we're not allowed to swear. You need to watch other TV shows, respected Ağa (term in Kazakh used to reference men one's senoir - Ed.) I didn't vote for you, and I doubt anyone else did,
Omarov said
Despite the setback, the producer assured that the project will continue.
There are problems. The guys are working on them. But no big deal. We'll create a new YouTube channel. If something happens again, we'll release it on DVD or VHS,
added Rustem Omarov.
A day earlier, the Majilis had debated banning television series that include profanity, abductions, or violence.
However, several deputies and cultural figures opposed such restrictions, warning that overly strict censorship could even threaten elements of national folklore.
