Representatives from Kazakhstan and Russia plan to attend celebrations marking Baikonur's 70th anniversary this year, reports Orda.kz.
The Baikonur administration expects 2025 to be particularly eventful, with anniversary celebrations and potential visits from high-ranking officials from both countries.
Police officers will ensure security in places where large numbers of people gather, which places additional responsibility on them for the quality of their service and vigilance, said Timur Verbitsky, acting head of the city administration, at a meeting on January 14.
While Baikonur administratively belongs to Kazakhstan, it operates under Russian management through a lease agreement that costs $115 million annually and extends until 2050.
The city's primary focus revolves around its famous cosmodrome.
During their meeting in November 2024, Presidents Qasym-Jomart Toqayev and Vladimir Putin reinforced their commitment to space cooperation.
Their statement highlighted plans to "continue work on joint space exploration, conducting experimental research, and developing telecommunications technologies."
