Kazakh ophthalmologist and innovator Mukhit Kulmaganbetov has received international recognition at the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2025, one of the most prestigious technology awards in Hong Kong and across Asia, Orda.kz reports.
The startup he founded, Entoptica, won the ICT Startup Award in the Hardware and Device category, while the device he developed, SLOPE, received a gold award. Judges highlighted the technology’s innovation and its significant contribution to healthcare.
The development enables early detection of age-related retinal diseases that lead to a gradual loss of central vision, one of the most common causes of blindness among older people. Diagnosis is carried out without surgery, medication, or painful procedures, using light- and wave-based technologies.

Kulmaganbetov is from the village of Qaljan Akhun in the Qyzylorda region and is known as a pioneer in the emerging field of quantum ophthalmology, which relies on the physical properties of light and waves rather than traditional surgical methods to diagnose and treat complex eye conditions.
This achievement is a source of great pride for me. I want to introduce these cutting-edge technologies in Kazakhstan and take domestic healthcare to a new level. My main goal is to provide Kazakhstanis with accessible, modern, and effective treatment methods,
says Kulmaganbetov.
The Hong Kong ICT Awards were established in 2006 with the support of the Hong Kong government and are regarded as one of the most prestigious honors in information and communications technology, representing top international recognition for technological and medical innovation.
