Kazakhstan plans to connect its government bonds to the Euroclear system next year, which should make it easier for foreign investors to access the domestic government securities market, Orda.kz reports.
According to the National Bank, a direct communication channel with Kazakhstan’s securities market infrastructure will be created for this purpose.
After that, foreign investors will be able to buy Kazakh government bonds directly through the global system, alongside the already existing route through Clearstream.the bank said.
The National Bank says the project should increase liquidity in the government securities market, reduce infrastructure barriers and operating costs, and raise foreign investor interest in Kazakhstan.
Euroclear is one of the world’s largest financial depositories. The company holds assets worth about 40.7 trillion euros, serves around 3,800 clients, and processes about 331 million transactions a year.
