Kazakh businessman Almaz Zaripov has been arrested in Bishkek on suspicion of a $2.5 million fraud, Orda.kz reports.
According to Kaktus.media, in March 2025, two Bishkek residents contacted the State Committee for National Security, alleging that a 51-year-old man gained their trust and proposed a profitable business — supplying grain products from Kazakhstan.
After agreeing to the terms, they handed him $2.5 million. But after receiving the money, the “supplier” stopped communicating and disappeared.
Business sources confirmed the man is Almaz Zaripov, owner of the food holding KAZBRAND and head of the Agrarian-Industrial Union of Kazakhstan.
The neighboring country’s security services placed Zaripov on the wanted list. Following his arrest, on August 23, the Lenin District Court of Bishkek ordered him held in custody until September 20, pending investigation.
He is charged with large-scale fraud. If convicted, Zaripov faces a lengthy prison term.
