Kazakh Activist Sentenced In Electoral Rights Case

The Almaly District Court in Almaty has sentenced activist Orazaly Yerzhanov, Orda.kz reports.
Yerzhanov was found guilty under Article 150, Part 2, Paragraph 3 of Kazakhstan’s Criminal Code — obstructing the exercise of electoral rights or the work of election commissions. He was sentenced to four years of restricted freedom.
The court also banned him from engaging in public activities for five years.
Yerzhanov was detained on February 26, 2026, over social media posts. He was accused of obstructing citizens’ electoral rights. On March 5, the court ordered him held in custody as a preventive measure. Later, the measure was changed to house arrest.
