Karachaganak Consortium Fined for Environmental Violations

The Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. consortium, which manages the Karachaganak oil field, has been fined for exceeding environmental limits, Orda.kz reports.
According to the West Kazakhstan Region Prosecutor’s Office, a recent inspection revealed that emissions of harmful substances at the consortium's facilities surpassed legal standards. This includes both air pollution and the discharge of unspecified liquid or solid waste. The total volume of pollutants was recorded at 264 tons.
Based on the findings, Karachaganak Petroleum Operating was fined for an administrative offense. The penalty amounted to 739,568,800 tenge, which the company has fully paid.
Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. is the international operator of the Karachaganak oil field. In addition to Kazakhstan’s KMG, its shareholders include Shell, Eni, Chevron, and Lukoil.
