Almaty’s Kairat began their Champions League group stage campaign with an away game against Sporting at the Jose Alvalade Stadium in Lisbon, Orda.kz reports.
Francisco Trincão put the hosts ahead in the 44th minute. Sporting extended their lead after the break: Trincão scored again in the 64th, Alisson Santos added a third less than a minute later, and Geovany Quenda made it 4-0 in the 68th.
Kairat managed to pull one back in the 85th minute when Edmilson scored following a series of shots on goal.
Eighteen-year-old goalkeeper Sherkhan Kalmurza made a strong impression in his senior debut, saving an early penalty from Sporting captain Morten Hjulmand.
Kairat will play their next match at home against Real Madrid on September 30.
