Kazakhstan’s Kairat secured a 1–0 home victory over Slovakia’s Slovan Bratislava in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League, Orda.kz reports.
The match, held at Almaty Central Stadium, was decided by a 90th-minute penalty confidently converted by forward Dastan Satpayev.
Slovan was reduced to 10 men in the 65th minute after midfielder Rahim Ibrahim was sent off for a foul.
This marks Kairat’s first appearance in the third qualifying round of the Champions League.
The second leg will take place in Bratislava on August 12. The winner will advance to the playoff round to face Celtic, while the loser will move to the Europa League playoff round against Swiss side Young Boys.
On July 29, Kairat defeated Finnish champions KuPS 3–0, with Satpayev also scoring the opening goal in that match.
