Kadyrov's Statements Impact Relations between Russia and Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan and Ramzan Kadyrov, the Chechen leader, are at odds following his controversial statements about an assassination attempt in Uzbekistan, Orda reports, citing The Caucasian Knot.

The dispute took a peculiar turn when an Uzbek official linked Chechen nationals to an attack on Komil Allamjonov's car.

Kadyrov has firmly rejected claims of Chechen involvement, dismissing them as "fake news" and threatening to respond "according to Chechen traditions" to what he viewed as slander.

This prompted Uzbek parliament member Odiljon Tozhiev to demand an apology and assistance finding the suspects.

Legal experts note that Uzbekistan can pursue criminal cases through Russian law enforcement and Interpol.

However, the incident's implications extend beyond legal matters, potentially affecting bilateral relations.

The timing is particularly delicate as Uzbekistan grapples with questions of political succession. The case has gained additional scrutiny due to one suspect, Shokhrukh Akhmedov, having previously been detained in Türkiye for allegedly plotting an attempt on one of Kadyrov's critics.

According to the Caucasian Knot, experts anticipate several developments in regional relations.

While Kadyrov could face unofficial restrictions on entering Uzbekistan, Central Asia's broader impact will be felt as authorities heighten their scrutiny of Chechen-linked activities.

Despite tensions between Kadyrov and Uzbek officials, analysts expect that Putin and Mirziyoyev will maintain their diplomatic relationship.

The incident has reportedly weakened Putin and Kadyrov's standing among Uzbek elites, particularly in light of developments in Ukraine that have challenged perceptions of Chechen military prowess.
