Ramzan Kadyrov has confirmed that he is prepared to run again for the post of head of Chechnya in 2026, despite saying he is tired of holding power, Orda.kz reports, citing The Caucasian Knot.
Speaking during a televised call-in show, Kadyrov said he would take part in the election if President Vladimir Putin supports his candidacy and if voters back him.
I will go to the elections if the president proposes it and the people support it. Otherwise — if you ask me — I am already fed up to the brim with this power and with serving the people. I think new forces are needed, new people, more interesting ones,
he said.
His current term expires in 2026.
Kadyrov has previously asked to step down multiple times, yet has remained the leader of Chechnya since 2007.
Rumors about Kadyrov’s health have also long circulated, with reports suggesting he suffers from a range of conditions, from kidney disease to pancreatic necrosis.
