An official investigation has been launched in the Specialized Interdistrict Criminal Court of Shymkent against Judge Abinur Karabayev. His behavior prompted the proceedings during the trial concerning the armed attack on the city’s deputy akim, Ruslan Berdenov, Orda.kz reports.
During the hearing, Karabyaev suddenly stuck his tongue out at journalists who were filming the session.
The video of the incident was published by journalist Botagoz Omarova.
The episode quickly spread across social media, where users joked that the judge had “become a meme.”
An official inquiry has already been scheduled.
If a violation of the Code of Judicial Ethics is confirmed, the materials will be transferred to the Commission on Judicial Ethics and then to the Judicial Jury under the Supreme Judicial Council,
the court’s press service stated.
Judge Karabayev has not yet commented on the situation.
Karabayev is currently presiding over the case of the attack on Shymkent deputy akim Ruslan Berdenov. In April, Berdenov was shot by his former subordinate, Yernar Zhiembay. The deputy akim was wounded and underwent surgery, while Zhiembay now faces trial.
Abinur Karabayev is also known for overseeing other high-profile cases, including the Astana trial of former Minister of Culture Arystanbek Mukhamediuly and the case concerning the seizure of the Kaspi branch.
