A court in Jetisu region has sentenced Serikkan Zhakupov, a former AMANAT party official and chief of staff to the Aqsu district Akim (mayor), reports an Orda.kz correspondent.
Zhakupov was found guilty of sexually assaulting a seven-year-old boy. The child was discovered to be his wife's nephew. Throughout these months, his wife couldn't believe he was capable of such an act and continued to bring packages to him in prison.
The former AMANAT party official was sentenced to life imprisonment.
Zhakupov worked in the Akimat (local government) until 2020, after which he was elected deputy to the district Maslikhat (local council).
However, the AMANAT party quickly distanced itself from its former colleague, stating that he "resigned on his own" in August 2024.
