Japarov Orders Death Penalty Amendments Following Killing of 16-Year-Old

Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov has ordered the drafting of legal amendments that would introduce the death penalty for particularly serious crimes against children and women, Orda.kz reports.
The move follows national outrage over the killing of 16-year-old Aisuluu. The case has triggered protests and widespread public anger across the country.
According to presidential press secretary Askat Alagozov, Japarov is personally monitoring the investigation. He expressed deep sorrow over the crime and said such acts must not go unpunished.
Authorities have already begun preparing amendments to the Criminal Code. The proposed changes include the death penalty for the sexual violence committed against minors, as well as the sexual violence and homicide of women.
The tragedy occurred on September 27, when a girl born in 2008 disappeared in Karakol. She was later found dead near the village of Zhel-Aryk.
Investigators say she was raped and then strangled. A suspect — born in 1984 and previously convicted — was detained in Bishkek.
