The President of Kyrgyzstan explained why he decided to address the two countries' peoples following the circulation of a provocative video about Kenesary Khan, Orda.kz reports.
Sadyr Japarov made a public statement after a video appeared on social media that presented a distorted version of 19th-century events, including the death of Kazakh Khan Kenesary Kasymov during a campaign on Kyrgyz territory.
According to him, such content is intended to incite hostility between Kyrgyz and Kazakhs by exploiting painful historical episodes.
In an interview with the Kyrgyz news agency Kabar, Japarov said that opposition groups in both Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan are responsible for spreading the provocative material.
"Their goal is to sow mistrust and provoke controversy in society by using tragic episodes from the past."
He stressed the importance of preserving peace, good neighborly relations, and centuries-old familial ties. Japarov also referred to his Kazakh heritage and urged the public not to give in to provocation.
Only a common future, mutual assistance and respect for historical truth can be the answer to any attempts to sow discord,
he stated.
After Japarov's address, the foreign ministers of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan held a phone call, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening allied relations between Astana and Bishkek.
