Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Health has detailed how a newly awarded grant from Japan will be spent, Orda.kz reports.
The Government of Japan will provide Kazakhstan with a grant exceeding 1 billion yen (approximately $7 million). The funds will be used to purchase medical equipment for the University Hospital in Semey, which provides care for those affected by nuclear testing.
The grant funds will be used to purchase a magnetic resonance imaging scanner, a computer tomograph, a video endoscopic system, an artificial blood circulation machine, and other medical devices necessary for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with serious illnesses,
the Ministry of Health said in a response to Orda.kz.
The agreement between the two countries is currently under review.
Japan and Kazakhstan have maintained long-standing cooperation in this field. Since 2002, Kazakhstan has operated a state registry of individuals affected by radiation exposure in Semey, developed with support from Japanese expertise.
