Jambyl Region Police Chief Bakitzhan Malybayev has been dismissed, Orda.kz reports.
According to sources, the decision was overseen by the Presidential Administration.
The colonel has not appeared at work for the past week, and his resignation letter has been awaiting approval since August.
Reasons
Recently, Deputy Police Chief Zhaydarbek Kuttybayev, responsible for personnel, was arrested on fraud charges.
Talas District Police Chief Yerken Abayev, previously on the wanted list, was also detained in the same case.
During Malybayev’s tenure, public order reportedly worsened. Traffic accidents, homicides, and sexual assaults increased, while crime prevention measures failed, and complaints about investigators rose. His decision to defend Kuttybayev while the latter was under investigation further damaged his standing.
In May, Malybayev hoped for a promotion to general but was rejected after a video surfaced online showing him drinking with other generals. Following this incident, his promotion prospects ended.
Potential Successor
The post may be filled by Arman Sadanov, currently head of the Internal Security Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Sadanov previously visited the region for the funeral of a police officer, where he promised a posthumous state award that was never granted.
Malybayev had served as head of the regional police for one year, having been appointed after a major purge of the department’s leadership following an inspection by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
A new appointment is expected in the coming days.
