Changan vehicles assembled in Kazakhstan will soon be exported to Russia. They’ll be produced at the AMMKZ multi-brand plant in Almaty, Orda.kz reports, citing Izvestia.
The plant, which will produce Changan, Geely, and GWM vehicles, is set to open in August. A broad lineup has been announced, including models like the Chery Tiggo 2 Pro, Haval Jolion, Tank 300, and Changan CS55 Plus.
According to preliminary information, the first model to be shipped from Kazakhstan to Russia will be the CS55 Plus crossover, expected to hit the Russian market in late autumn 2025.
Earlier this year, Changan held talks about launching production in Kaliningrad, but those discussions appear to have stalled. As a result, cars assembled in Almaty will be exported to Russia with a recycling fee applied.
The AMMKZ multi-brand plant is part of the Astana Group, founded by prominent Kazakh businessman Nurlan Smagulov, who ranks eighth on Forbes’ Kazakhstan list with a fortune of $990 million.
Smagulov also owns the Mega shopping mall chain and the MyCar service centers.
