According to Iran International, citing its sources, Tehran officials are in talks with Russian authorities about a contingency plan to evacuate Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Orda.kz reports.
The negotiations are reportedly being led by the deputy chief of Khamenei’s office. Allegedly, Ali Asghar Hejazi received assurances from a senior Russian official that, in the event of a “sudden deterioration of the situation,” Moscow would be ready to arrange a safe evacuation route for Khamenei and his family.
The outlet also notes that several other high-ranking Iranian officials are preparing to leave the country should the situation become critical.
Reuters previously reported that former U.S. President Donald Trump had allegedly “vetoed” an Israeli plan to assassinate the Supreme Leader.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has denied claims that the IDF planned to kill Khamenei.
