The investigation into the case of the former Kazakh Embassy Counselor in the UAE, accused of abusing his ex-wife, has been completed. The lawyer for the victim, Karina Gosman (the ex-diplomat's ex-wife), told an Orda.kz correspondent about this.
The investigation lasted almost a year. Saken Mamash was charged under Part 2 of Article 110 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, "Torture."
Gosman's lawyer, Bibinur Muratova, said the case was reclassified:
Initially, they charged under the first part of Article 110 of the Criminal Code. It provides for punishment in the form of correctional labor. But under the second part - torture with particular cruelty, abuse of a helpless or dependent person - he faces from four to seven years of imprisonment without alternative measures, the lawyer explained.
At the same time, the investigation into the second criminal case – regarding threats made by Saken Mamash against his ex-wife – was terminated.
The case will be heard in the capital's court. The start date of the trial has not yet been set.
Karina Gosman revealed she was subjected to regular abuse in May last year.
