Interior Minister Yerzhan Sadenov has expressed support for a proposed ban on face-covering clothing in Kazakhstan, Orda.kz reports.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Majilis, Sadenov said the measure is motivated by security concerns.
This is an initiative of the deputies. We generally support it, because the measure is aimed at safety. If there is nothing to hide, why cover your face?
said the Interior Minister.
The proposed ban is expected to be reviewed by the Majlis in the near future. According to Minister of Culture and Information Aida Balayeva, the provision is included in a draft bill developed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
