The Military Prosecutor’s Office has uncovered serious violations in procurement processes for conscript supplies in Almaty, prompting the cancellation of tenders and a call for greater oversight, Orda.kz reports.
Almaty Garrison Military Prosecutor’s Office inspected the regional Department for Mobilization Training and Territorial Defense and found that food and medical supplies for conscripts had been purchased in violation of procurement regulations.
It was found that the estimated cost of food for conscripts was significantly inflated. The tender documentation lacked required details, and various medical items were improperly grouped into a single lot,the prosecutor’s office said in an official statement.
As a result, several tenders totaling 52 million tenge were annulled and reissued, this time in accordance with legal standards.
Earlier in April, Majilis deputy Aigul Kuspan proposed increasing the daily food allowance for conscripts by 900 tenge — from the current 2,250 to at least 3,150 tenge — noting that the last revision to the ration cost was made two years ago.
