Incident at Shymkent Refinery: Police Detain Two Suspects

A development has emerged in the case of the fatal tragedy at the Shymkent refinery, Orda.kz reports.
Police have detained two suspects and placed them in a temporary detention facility. The investigation considers them possibly responsible for safety violations that led to the deaths of two employees of a contracting company. According to our information, one of the detainees is a site supervisor at the oil refinery.
Shymkent’s Police Department stated that the case is being investigated under the article related to violations of labor protection rules that resulted in loss of life.
Once the investigation is completed, a procedural decision will be made in accordance with the law, the press service added.
The press service of the Shymkent refinery clarified that the detainees are not employees of the plant.
The tragedy occurred on August 26: a boom lift overturned during insulation work on the refinery’s grounds. Two employees of the contracting company KRS Astana LLP were killed.
The refinery’s management expressed condolences to their families.
