Human rights activist Inga Imanbay has provided Orda.kz with an update on conscript soldier Yerbayan Mukhtar, who suffered severe head trauma while serving in National Guard unit 5571.
The soldier has recently returned from Türkiye following major cranial surgery and will return to Istanbul in several months to continue rehabilitation.
The operation was successful, and doctors are giving positive forecasts. But before full rehabilitation, he needs rest now, so he'll be in Astana at home until April. The surgical area is healing well. His reflexes are gradually returning and he's gaining weight, though he still requires a special chair for sitting as he cannot do so independently, said human rights activist Inga Imanbay, who represents the family's interests.
Yerbayan Mukhtar will eventually return to Istanbul to continue his rehabilitation program.
Meanwhile, the legal proceedings surrounding his case appear to have stalled, according to Imanbay.
New medical expert examinations have been ordered, but there are no decisive steps. Due to public attention, they cannot close the case, but they're dragging out the procedural decision and court proceedings. Each time the investigator calls, their first question is whether Yerbayan has started speaking. I suspect the investigation is waiting for this to happen, she stated.
