Since March 2024, a national peacekeeping contingent of 139 Kazakh service members has been stationed in the Golan Heights, according to Orda.kz.
During a plenary session in the Majilis, Deputy Defense Minister Shaikh-Khassan Zhazykbayev disclosed the financial support Kazakhstan receives from the United Nations for its participation in the mission.
The UN provides approximately $5 million annually for Kazakhstan's participation in the mission. Around $2.4 million goes to personnel salaries, while the remaining $2.6 million covers equipment, weapons, and other property rentals. Each serviceman receives a monthly stipend of $1,448. While personnel payments go directly to the military members, funds allocated for equipment and property are directed to the state budget,Zhazykbayev explained.
He shared these details while presenting a draft law on the ratification of an agreement in the form of an exchange of letters to the memorandum of understanding between Kazakhstan and the UN regarding resource provision for the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF), dated February 14, 2024.
The mission in the Golan Heights aims to uphold the ceasefire between Israel and Syria while monitoring and overseeing the disengagement of their forces.
