A suspect in a series of serious crimes, including homicide and armed robbery, has been extradited to Kazakhstan from Azerbaijan, Orda.kz reports.
The extradition was carried out through coordinated efforts by the Kazakh General Prosecutor’s Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Kazakh Embassy in Baku.
According to investigators, in October 2024, the suspect and an accomplice lured Yermek Zhakipzhanov—Lenovo’s Director for Government Relations in Kazakhstan — into a meeting. They allegedly beat him unconscious, stole valuables worth around 40 million tenge, and later killed him outside of Almaty.
One of the suspects was arrested shortly after the crime, while the other fled and was placed on the international wanted list. He was apprehended in Azerbaijan in January 2025 and has now been returned to Kazakhstan.
The suspect is currently being held in a pre-trial detention center.
If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
