Hired a Hitman: Elvira Yerkebayeva Faces Seven Years

Since August 2024, the Specialized Inter-District Criminal Court of the West Kazakhstan Region has been hearing the case of Elvira Yerkebayeva and Maxim Kuznetsov. They are accused of attempted homicide, Orda.kz reports.
According to investigators, Yerkebayeva offered two million tenge to have her ex-husband, Yerbol Yerkebayev, killed. She was assisted in preparing the crime by 33-year-old Kuznetsov, who was supposed to buy a gun and carry out the homicide. However, the attempt never went beyond the planning stage.
During the trial, it was revealed that for 20 years, Yerbol had subjected his wife to severe psychological pressure, stalking, and abuse. In court, however, the man repeatedly stated that he does not consider himself a victim and has no complaints against his ex-wife.
Elvira’s ex-husband is disabled and has no legs.
This case was already considered by a second jury after the first was dismissed at the request of prosecutor Dospol Zhubanov.
On August 21, the hearings concluded. During the closing arguments, prosecutor Dina Iztleuova stated that the defendants’ guilt had been fully proven. She requested a sentence of seven years and six months in prison for Yerkebayeva and 10 years for Kuznetsov.
Elvira Yerkebayeva’s lawyer, Tamara Sarsenova, disagreed with the prosecutor, saying the trial was conducted with numerous violations.
This is lawlessness. The trial itself proves it. The prosecutors demanded prison terms in such a ‘raw’ case and with clear provocation, which is confirmed by audio recordings. We will appeal this case to the president and the prosecutor general and hope for the jury’s objectivity, the lawyer said.
The verdict will be announced soon.
