German Firm Proposes Water Recycling and Purification Solutions for Mangystau

A German company has presented water purification and recycling technologies to officials in Kazakhstan’s Mangystau region, Orda.kz reports.
Regional Akim Nurdaulet Kilybay met with representatives of Bioworks, a German firm specializing in water treatment and sustainable supply systems. The talks focused on the potential construction of a desalination plant and upgrades to the KOS-1 sewage treatment facility.
Local authorities hope the adoption of German technologies will ease pressure on aging infrastructure, improve the volume and quality of water supply, and help address long-term water shortages.
According to Kilybay, Mangystau is pursuing several large-scale projects aimed at fully resolving the region’s water deficit.
President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev has previously identified water supply as a major issue for Mangystau.
At a regional development meeting, he noted that the region faces a daily shortfall of 23,000 cubic meters of water, with pipeline wear in Aqtau reaching 77%. Six desalination plants are currently under construction, and a 1,400-kilometer pipeline from the Kokzhide aquifer is under consideration.
