Georgia's parliament, dominated by the ruling Georgian Dream party, voted on February 5 to terminate the mandates of 49 opposition MPs, Orda reports, citing JAM News.
The parliament, originally supposed to have 150 members, has now been reduced to 101.
The decision affects members from three opposition coalitions: Unity – National Movement, Coalition for Change, and Strong Georgia.
While the Gakharia for Georgia party retains its 12 seats, it joins other opposition groups in boycotting parliament activities, saying the October 2024 elections were fraudulent.
The opposition's withdrawal and subsequent mandate terminations come amid ongoing mass protests across Georgia, with demonstrators demanding new parliamentary elections and political change.
